I decided in terms of my design direction it would be beneficial to look at designs that directly link to the subject i am working with, i have looked at corporate identities, publications and editorials, photography and much more to get a feel for what design direction is effective and what isn't. This should hopefully give me a greater understanding of which way to approach this brief.
This design shows how minimalist design works well to create a clean design that uses a lot of negative space this in my opinion is the most effective way to create an aesthetic design that is not overpowering an communicates only what you want it too.
I feel that sticking to a limited colour scheme is the best option as it again creates a design that is simplistic and makes sure again not to over power the viewer. This is very effective when creating designs that need to communicate information for example this map communicates the information as a necessity if this was full of different colours this would take away from the information that is communicated.
This logo design below shows how the logo design is effective when it is a direct representation of the clients work for example look how the brand logo links to the imagery above and below it is all made up of geometric shapes and forms that link back to the architectural origin. This is a key method that i will be experimenting with throughout this brief.
in terms of the web side i love how this design communicates the same ethic across all mediums simplicity is shown throughout the print based material with the one colour print and then is carried on to the simple grid layout of the web site this is something that i will without doubt take into consideration when creating my design.
This modernist simplistic design style is again apparent within this publication as shown below the design keeps the the typographic elements to a stripped down minimal ensuring only the information is communicated straight to the point no excess i feel this is communicated also through the layout.
This design on the other hand is very decorative, and i feel this isn't really effective, when the design is then to be applied to already very complex designs such as computer graphics, as you can see below, the design becomes to me overpowering. The colour scheme of the logo design is to intense therefore is going to contrast with everything it is applied to this will limit the design in terms of bad colour contrasts.
The design above again displays the use of the use of a simplistic design, showing how this creates a design that is highly effective in terms of layout and effective use of white space, I intend to include this design direction within my logo design and any designs that i expand from this.
i love how the logo design above encompassed the what the brand is about in a simplistic form, this is what is needed from my logo design, I must ensure that my logo design is simplistic and minimalist, but communicates the aspects of the brand as soon as the viewer see's the design.
