Responsive: Existing Designs_ Homeless

Nikos Zervos _ Behance

I love these two images that where taken in Athens Greece, i feel as the viewer you can really partly into the life's of the people within the photo i feel this a great attribute of photography, i feel the use of the black and white gives the photograph a dated old fashioned feel. I don't really feel this is appropriate for my design direction but this could be taken into consideration.

  • 12 Baskets Magazine
Launch issue for "12 Baskets" the digital magazine of Mobile Loaves & Fishes
  • I was asked to create the look of and be the Art Director for the launch issue of 12 Baskets, the digital magazine for the Austin non-profit Mobile Loaves & Fishes. It was an eye opening experience for everyone who contributed. The magazine was published on issuu.com. See the issue in it's entirety HERE.

The design above features some really effective imagery however i feel the format of the design will be un effective for my design direction i need something that is quick snappy and to the point. as the audience wont hand around in my opinion and as i know the mass amount of homeless are based in the city. And i know from research the fast paced city life in the city means my design will not be viewed for very long so i must make the design stand out and grab that attention this is why i feel a publication will be in effective and poster is the most suitable format.

Frozen Cinema

By turning down the room temperatures in cinemas across Germany, we let people experience
how the homeless feel in winter. In a short film several homeless people explained what was
happening to the audience. Donations were made instantly via QR-codes on the distributed blankets.

This is one of my favourite design directions based on this subject,  i feel the concept and idea is amazingly interactive in the way it gets the audience involved i feel this isnt possible with a poster format however i feel i can introduce an aspect of this by possibly making the poster design the height of a human or placed specifically like on a bench or sat on a corner all of these are aspects that will make the design stand out i feel it is down to format.

For a Good Cause

For a good Cause organised by street newspaper Lice Ulice. Our assignment was to make an infographic on the subject of homelessness in Serbia and raising public awareness about it.

This is a completely different approach to what i have looked at before, this approach is a lot more laid back and relaxed about the whole situation, In my opinion this will not be effective in making the point as serious as it is for this reason i feel  photography is my main focus as it gives the design the realism that is needed as the subject is very real.

Strangers in the Streets of Stockholm

The images below are some of the most effective from the ones i have looked at, I feel that the images capture the homeless in their environment it is not set up the whole thing looks natural. This is an aspect i will be taking into consideration when creating my designs.
