Lorraine set us a task that was to basically to look at a range of either different branding, logo designs or products. that we find aesthetically pleasing or work effectively, we are then to go on and look into how the material goes together how it is produced, reproducing the material in the studio, time it would take to produced and what production methods have been used in the production.
The image above shows a beautiful shop front that is a direct promotion of their branding before even looking in the show windows the display cover displays diamond like straight edges and form. I feel this is a great way of pushing the brand of a company and is something i will take into consideration at later dates when going onto creating my design. In terms of creating this is in my opinion the measurements would be written down then, the design specification would be given to a specialist to create this piece. In terms of reproduction in the studio i feel all i could do is mock the design up on photoshop in a form of digital mock up or i could always develop my craft skills and create a scaled down model. This wouldn't really be time consuming but in terms of the final product this would be expensive and would take around a 2 weeks to be actually produced and fitted.
In terms of print based branding, this is very easy to to reproduce in uni, i feel that the most effective aspect of the design above is the use of the spot colour. This can be reproduced in uni by the process of screen printing whereas in the industry this would be picked and sent tot the printer to apply. Although this process is expensive it really gives a design a beautiful finish that looks crisp and attention grabbing. This is a great way to give a brand a really strong identity. In terms of time it simply depends on the extent you want to go to, In terms of production method the stock would be bought in from a supplier and would be screen printed in uni.
Innovative Format_ In my opinion i feel that to create something that stands it must be something that stands out amongst the crowd, as you can se the format that is shown above is innovative and stands out although this is a completely different direction to what i am going for i think this is a great example of how doing something that is innovative can really make a design stand out. As you can also see the format is in direct relation to the logo design. In terms of reproduction this is again something that could be produced simply at uni. and in terms of time scale it again depends on how far i want to take this but it could all be hand crafted in the studio.
Installations innovative advertising_
In terms of promotion and advertisement i have got a real interest in innovative advertising, I feel that when it comes to promoting and advertising to really engage with the viewer your ideas must be fresh and outside the box i feel that in most cases the simplest concepts work the most effectively. For example this Nike add is so simple but i feel the concept is very effective, In terms of creating these proposals it would be in most cases impossible for me to actually produce. so it would be done by photoshop mock up proposals. This will not take long and can be generated in the studio.
The perfect bind_
This binding method ceates a highly professional outcome when binding, it not only looks beautifully clean but it also makes the publication long lasting in terms of life span. I believe that this could be executed in studio environment and i will be experimenting with this. Time span i feel this will be a complex process and may take time but it will be a learning process for me.
Todays Workshop_
During this workshop we where asked to bring in examples of our chosen area, my choice was to bring in examples that i want to explore these really consisted of branding some advertising and finally traditional print and binding techniques. We then went onto present the material shown above to the group and then we generated lists as shown below.
5 things i want to know about_Production
What would be the most effective context?
What do i do to achieve the spot colour for my branding?
How would i achieve a die cut replication in the studio?
How would i go about creating the perfect bind?
How would i apply and inked emboss?
5 things i need to find out_
how to emboss with inked surface double sided screen printing
how to edge paint?
how to work with double sided when screen printing
The process and production when working with letterpress
What context would be most effective for my conceptual idea.
Reasons for why the branding is Bad
The branding appeals to a very design based audience due to the very modernist aesthetic.
The colour scheme is the same green as always, repetitive nothing new.
A lot goes into the branding and this could be very time consuming
not innovative.
Reasons for why the branding is Good
Modern aesthetic, the design looks cutting edge and makes you want to explore
The design is eye catching
The price should be fairly acceptable
The branding can be continued over every product that is created.
